So we're trying out a new DNA spray that can 'tag' offenders and link them to unsolved crimes. Even though we're trying to do more with less, what matters to you, still matters to us.

An amateur film of a visit by Princess Elizabeth to Newcastle to participate in the War Days, possibly Flag Days, parade. The film opens with a street procession of military personnel marching past a number of local dignitaries and an unidentified military officer in dress uniform. The procession includes a large float in the shape of a warship. There is a view of Grey's Monument with a large sign around the base reading "Another Million". This is followed by a military and civilian inspection taking place at St James Park by Herbert Morrison. He is seen giving a speech.

The next part of the film shows Princess Elizabeth arriving and inspecting a number of women drivers as well as a number of cooks all of whom are standing beside their vehicles. She is then seen in an unknown street presenting a trophy to a soldier followed by a large procession on military personnel and vehicles along an unknown Newcastle Street. The film end with her inspecting military and civilian personnel at St James Park.

Jay, one of our force bred dogs is looking for a very special home. He is 2 1/2 years old and has been medically retired due to developing Epilepsy. Jay is currently on daily medication.

Despite this Jay remains a happy, lively dog and is friendly and sociable with people and other dogs. Jay has been known to chase cats but with careful introduction it is possible that he could live with a cat. We would like a home with people who have large breed experience and who can commit to the possibility of a long-term medical condition. We think Jay would prefer to live with another dog but this is not essential as finding the right home is our main priority.

At the present time Jay has not had any seizures since being on his medication which is at a cost of around £25 per month, he will also require periodic blood tests to monitor his condition. Due to this Jay would be free of charge to the right home, is up to date with his vaccinations, wormer, flea control and could be neutered free of charge.

Northumbria Police has begun a campaign aimed at helping you keep your property safe this festive season.

While Christmas is regarded as a time for giving, for thieves it is also seen as a time for taking.

'Don't let thieves steal your Christmas' will be running until 14 January 2011 with lots of crime prevention tips available which are particularly relevant at this time of year.

Crimes such as burglary, theft, and robbery will be targeted with operations across the whole force.

Crime prevention advice will also be available advising you on how to protect yourself and your property from opportunist thieves.

A brazen burglar who broke into student flats before urinating on the floor, eating resident's food and carrying out a sex act has been jailed.

Connor Alexander, 22, has been sentenced to 20 months behind bars after he was found fast asleep at the scene of his crime.

A court was told how the thief had forced the electric lock of the Winn Studios accommodation on Stoddart Street in Newcastle on May 31.

He then set the fire alarm off and was captured on CCTV urinating on the floor before making his way to a communal area.

Alexander then proceeded to eat food from the cupboards before he lay down on the sofa, put porn on the communal television and carried out a sex act.

But once the brazen burglar had finished he continued to loiter around the flats and danced to music channels on the TV.

The 22-year-old, who said he was drunk at the time, eventually left the communal area but not before breaking into the kitchen and throwing food across the floor.

Security at the flats called police and they attended the building but the thief was nowhere to be seen.

However, a few hours later police were called again - after security found Alexander asleep under a flight of stairs.

He was arrested and later charged with two counts of burglary after being linked to a break-in at a student house on Simonside Terrace in Heaton.

The court was told how he had raided the property earlier that morning and stolen an iMac computer before fleeing the scene.

At an earlier hearing at Newcastle Crown Court, he pleaded guilty to both burglaries and a charge of criminal damage relating to the university accommodation raid.

Now Alexander, of Bayswater Road, Jesmond, has been jailed for 20 months after appearing at the same court on Monday.

Following the case, police released CCTV showing the thief dancing around the student flats - they decided against releasing footage of him carrying out a sex act.

Chief Inspector Steve Wykes, in charge of policing in the city centre, said: "Not often do you come across a case where a burglar has been quite this brazen.

"He has caused hundreds of pounds worth of damage during this raid and absolutely trashed the accommodation.

"This was one of two burglaries that evening and, although some may laugh at footage of Alexander dancing around the flats, these types of incidents are very intrusive offences.

"It can be very frightening to know that a stranger has been in your home and I am glad that this burglar is now facing time behind bars.

"He has been a prolific offender in recent years and I hope that his sentence gives him time to reflect on his behaviour and the impact it has had on his victims."

The bill for the damage caused to the property was £500 and there was also a £100 cleaning bill to clean up the mess he had caused.

The court was also told Alexander had amassed more than 50 convictions in three years since leaving the armed forces due to medical reasons.

Bella is a very cute female German Shepherd dog looking for a new home.

Bella loves playing with toys and is very friendly with other dogs.

She was gifted to Northumbria Police by a member of the public as a prospective police dog but is too shy.

Bella would be a lovely pet for the right people.

Bella does have some behavioural issues due to her nervousness which make her wary of new people. She would need an experienced owner with the time and knowledge to help her overcome her problems.

Police in Gateshead have released CCTV of a dangerous driver as part of an ongoing crackdown on irresponsible driving in the area.

Katie Bough, 19, of Chowdene Bank, Low Fell was given a six week prison sentence, suspended for 12 months, a 12-month supervision order, banned from driving for 15 months and ordered to pay £80 costs by Gateshead Magistrates after admitting driving dangerously and while using a mobile phone on the Team Valley.

Officers found her driving her Ford Fiesta with two people hanging onto the bonnet on the night of Sunday, April 8.

Operations Command Chief Inspector Sarah Pitt said: "This woman's actions are completely unacceptable. Those involved are lucky there were no serious injuries.

"Behaviour like this will not be tolerated and anyone who may think otherwise will be caught and face the consequences of their actions.

"This woman now has a criminal record which will inevitably affect her life which she may well regret for a long time.

Chief Superintendent Neil Adamson, head of Gateshead Area Command said: "This is not the sort of behaviour we want to see in Gateshead and I hope this shows how serious an offence this is.

"Something that seems like a bit of fun at the time could go horribly wrong. This case could have had a very different and life-changing outcome if someone had been seriously injured.

"I want to reassure people our officers are working with other agencies to crackdown on dangerous driving, particularly in and around the Team Valley area, and are taking action to tackle all kinds of anti-social behaviour."
